New 'iBurgh' App Makes Reporting City Potholes Easy

Pittsburgh City Councilman Bill Peduto and YinzCam, Inc. announced on Monday a new application that will allow Pittsburgh residents to report potholes using their iPhones.

Residents driving down the street will be able to use their iPhone to take a picture of a pothole and instantaneously submit the complaint, photo and exact location to the city's 311 system by using the new "iBurgh" application.

Using the application, the city receives the picture of the pothole, its GPS location and a description of the problem in less than 30 seconds.

"We want to make [the application] interactive so that there is a way for government to report and be proactive about things that people are interested in -- things that are happening in their neighborhood," Peduto said.

The city hopes to use iBurgh to improve response times for pothole repairs and snow removal.

By utilizing iBurgh, Pittsburgh will become the nation's first major city to implement a comprehensive government-integrated iPhone application, officials said.
