Northside Teacher Receives National Educator Award

PITTSBURGH —

A local teacher received national recognition as an educator on Friday.

Jamilla Rice received the Milken National Educator Award.

Rice is an English teacher at Northside Urban Pathways Charter School.

The Milken award recognizes 50 outstanding educators across the country.

“It’s a nice recognition,” said Rice. “I guess it shows that the hard work that I’ve put in over time is recognized by someone.”

As part of the award, Rice was given $25,000. There are no restrictions on how she can use her prize money.

Rice is the only teacher in Pennsylvania to be recognized this year.
