The keynote speaker took the stage at this year's National Rifle Association convention, while an anti-gun rally was held in downtown Pittsburgh.
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee spoke Saturday night at the Consol Energy center as part of the third annual Celebration of American Values Freedom Experience.
Huckabee didn't say whether he'll be a republican presidential candidate. His name has been floated as a possible candidate.
Huckabee did urge gun owners and supporters to continue to fight for their right to own firearms.
Comedian Jeff Foxworthy also attended the convention.
Channel 11 caught heated debates going on downtown at an anti-gun rally.
A large group took to the streets to speak out against gun violence.
Both sides did what they could to be heard.
“It's their right to do. They don't understand things sometimes, but that's OK,” Charlie McKelly, NRA member said.
Families and friends of victims of gun violence are asking to talk with NRA leaders about preventing illegal gun sales.
About 250 marched from Freedom Corner to downtown and then back again.
“It's not like my two sons died in an accident or of sickness that had no cure. Someone took their lives and had it not been for a gun, they may have still been here,” Katie Botoms said.
The Rev. Glenn Grayson helped organize the march.
“The young man who took my son's life, at 19, he wouldn't have been able to go to a shop and legally get guns,” Grayson said.
Despite the plea for a meeting, the march, and also a truck carrying a billboard, protesters said the NRA rebuffed their efforts to talk.
