O'Connor Tolerating Second Chemo Treatment

No Information On How Long Mayor Will Be In Hospital

PITTSBURGH —

New details have been released about Mayor Bob O'Connor's battle with cancer.

Pittsburgh Mayor Bob O'Connor is hospitalized in stable condition Wednesday at UPMC Shadyside for primary central nervous system (CNS) lymphoma.

Doctors told Channel 11 News O'Connor is tolerating his second chemo treatment.

The Mayor's medical team at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center reported that his liver enzymes are returning to normal levels.

Blood tests confirmed that levels of methotrexate in his blood are dropping quickly as anticipated.

But there's concern he may not be doing so well after all.

No information has been released indicating how long O'Connor will be in the hospital, and he is still experiencing problems with hiccups.

There is also speculation about the appointment of an acting mayor. One scenario has Council President Luke Ravenstahl taking his place.

Friday is being listed as a possibility for doctors to hold another news conference.

The next scheduled update on Mayor O'Connor's medical condition will be released to the media at 3 p.m., Thursday, July 27.
