PITTSBURGH —
VIDEO: PennDOT Construction Season To Begin
A big construction project is the final phase of a $19 million makeover of the Parkway East. Construction will take place in the outbound lanes in the areas of Churchill, Wilkins Township, Penn Hills and Monroeville, PennDOT said. Crews will resurface the road, preserve bridges, add lighting and fix the shoulders.
A PennDOT spokesman said construction will take place to minimize any inconvenience to commuters during the morning and evening rush hours. During normal business days, two lanes of traffic will be open in both directions.
PennDOT plans more than $400 million worth of improvements across the state. In the Pittsburgh region, other projects include bridge work along the Parkway West, widening Route 28 and fixing up Route 65 near Interstate 79.
