Phone Service Outage In Four Allegheny County Communities

MUNHALL, Pa. —

A phone service outage in four Allegheny County communities may last until at least the weekend.

Emergency workers in Munhall, Homestead, West Mifflin and Whittaker said they have been told by Verizon that phone service won't be restored until Saturday. The outage happened around 5 a.m. Tuesday.

If anyone has an emergency, but not a cell phone, they are asked to use a neighbor’s cell phone to call 911.

Verizon says underground cables were damaged by recent heavy rains, and the manholes providing access to those cables are still flooded.
