Pittsburgh Hotel Wrestles With Demands Of G-20 Delegations

PITTSBURGH —

The Marriot City Center is scrambling to meet the demands of the delegations set to stay there for the Group of 20 Summit.

The Marriot is currently dealing with accommodating the Chinese, Japanese and Korean delegations in the hotel’s 400 rooms.

“They all want 150 to 200 rooms,” said general manager Jim Olsovsky. “They want press delegations so they can communicate back to their (countries). They’ll each need ten fax machines, 20 copiers, 50 phone lines and 70 high speed Internet lines.”

Not only are the delegations’ demands pressing the hotel to upgrade its room offerings, but its kitchen staff is preparing for countries to bring their own chefs.

"I don't know if we can make authentic Japanese (and) Chinese food,” Olsovsky said. “What we need, we don't know, but as long as they have their people, we can help them."
