Pittsburgh Man Leads Space Mission

RICHLAND TOWNSHIP —

A Pittsburgh native will not blast off into outer space on Thursday.

Stephen Frick, of Richland, is the assigned mission commander of Space Shuttle Atlantis.

Problems with the fuel gauges prompted the push back of lift off until Friday.

Frick will command a seven-man crew during an 11-day mission in Space Shuttle Atlantis, and his brother and sister said they couldn't be more proud.

The crew will attach the European-built Columbus laboratory to the International Space Station.

Frick's brother, Ted Frick, and sister Debbie Frick Watts said they are nervous, but they're confident Steve can handle the challenge. They added it was Steve's dream to travel in space.
