Pittsburgh Ranked No. 1 Most Livable U.S. City ... Again

Pittsburgh is once again ranked the No. 1 city in the United States. This time, it was ranked first by The Economist magazine.

The British magazine's ranking comes weeks after President Barack Obama chose Pittsburgh to host the G-20 summit in September, calling it a symbol of economic recovery.

“Pittsburgh’s a wonderful place to live,” said resident Mike Wargo. “I’ve given 11 years of my life here, and I definitely feel it should be respected.”

The magazine scored 140 cities in categories such as health care, culture and education.

Vancouver, Canada was rated as the best place in the world to live, followed by Vienna, Austria; Melbourne, Australia; and Toronto, Canada.

There were no U.S. cities ranked before Pittsburgh at No. 29.

In 2007, the 25th anniversary edition of Rand McNally's "Places Rated Almanac" also ranked Pittsburgh most livable.

Pittsburgh's economy was decimated when the U.S. steel industry collapsed 30 years ago. It has been struggling to recover ever since.
