PITTSBURGH —
Pittsburgh is hosting the meeting of 19 world leaders and the European Union on Sept. 24 and Sept. 25. Thousands of media and protesters are expected to descend on the city along with the heads of state and their entourages.
Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl said it will cost between $10 million and $20 million to secure the event, including overtime to some 4,000 police officers.
Gov. Ed Rendell's spokesman Chuck Ardo said the state will "do what it can to contribute to the costs of security."
The leaders will discuss the global economic crisis at their September meeting.
