PNC Bank Asking Customers To Remove Hats, Sunglasses

 

PITTSBURGH —

Customers entering PNC Bank branches will now be asked to remove their hats, baseball caps, sunglasses and hoods upon entering the building.

Signs have been posted near the doors to let customers know about the new policy.

PNC Bank said the policy is a customer service issue as well as a safety issue. In a statement, the bank said, “Great customer service includes getting to know your customers. PNC Bank's policies help us recognize clients and ultimately reflect a concern for their safety and security."

However, some customers see the policy as an inconvenience.

Heidi Fonzi, who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, said, “I think it characterizes you as something you’re not.”

Customer Paul Bennett says he wears photocell glasses that he will now have to take off coming into the bank.

“I take the glasses off then I can’t see a thing,” said Bennett. “I’ll probably have to find another bank.”

Security experts hope the policy will make it easier to identify robbery suspects and prevent future bank robberies.

Banks in other states such as Massachusetts and Maryland have already adopted similar dress codes.
