WEST HOMESTEAD, Pa. —
West Homestead police told Channel 11 News the chase started about 11 p.m. following an armed robbery at the Marriott hotel at the Waterfront.
Police described the robber as an African-American male, with a full beard and mustache, who was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.
The robber fled in a full-size, gold-colored pickup, which had been reported stolen.
After crossing the Homestead Grays bridge, investigators said the robber fired shots at an officer who was in pursuit on Beechwood Boulevard.
The officer suffered facial injuries when the windshield of his cruiser shattered after being struck by a bullet.
The cruiser left the roadway and came to rest at the bottom of a hillside.
Other officers continued the pursuit for a short time on the inbound side of the Parkway East.
The pursuit ended near the Allegheny County Jail.
