Alleged shoplifter rams police car during pursuit

PITTSBURGH —

An alleged shoplifter who led police on a wild chase early Monday evening was apprehended beneath the Highland Park Bridge.

Authorities told Channel 11 News that a worker at the Target on Freeport Road in Harmar watched a thief take a television set from the store. Employees confronted the person in question as he put the TV in his vehicle. That's when he fled.

The suspect rammed at least one police cruiser during the subsequent pursuit, which ended shortly thereafter on the Highland Park Bridge. That's where the suspect bailed from his vehicle. He was then apprehended beneath the bridge.

Flying high above the scene, Chopper 11 spotted approximately 10 police cars on the bridge.
