Police: Granddaughter Used For Walmart Shoplifting Scheme

Investigators Said Grandmother Left Child At Store, Denied Knowing Girl

FAYETTE COUNTY, Pa. —

Police in Fayette County said a grandmother used her granddaughter to help her shoplift from a Walmart, then left her at the store.

Elaine Weimer, 50, is accused of going on a shopping spree with her 8-year-old granddaughter.

Police said Weimer walked through the aisles around noon on Wednesday and took things off the shelves and made her granddaughter carry them.

When the two left the store, they were stopped by an employee. That's when investigators said Weimer told the employee that she didn't know who the girl was, then got in her car and took off.

State police later arrested Weimer at her Connellsville home. She faces several charges, including corruption of a minor.
