MOUNT PLEASANT TOWNSHIP, Pa. —
Two police officers on patrol on West Main Street in Mount Pleasant Township noticed smoke coming out of a sewer near Pritts Feed Mills at about 3 a.m. Tuesday.
Further investigation revealed that the fire apparently started in the building where some welding was being done on Monday. Sparks from the work got into the sewer and started smoldering, fire officials said.
“We found one of the mixers that they mixed the grain in had a fire underneath the mixer in a wooden floor,” said Chief Jerry Lucia of the Mount Pleasant Fire Department.
Firefighters got the fire under control before it could spread through the feed mill.
Pritts Feed Mills is a local landscaping and pet feeding supply store. There was no major damage to the building.
