Police: Thieves Use Property Line Ploy

Suspects Act Like Property Surveyors

Police in Butler County told Channel 11 there is a new ploy to get people out of their home so a burglar can get inside and it involves property lines.

Middlesex Township police said the schemers knock on a victim's door acting as surveyors, one asks to see the property line while the other goes inside to steal.

The thieves are described as being in their 40s or 50s.

Police said they are targeting older women who live alone.

There are at least two cases since last week and police said both times the thieves are stealing cash and prescription drugs from the homes.

Middlesex Officer Conrad Pfeifer believes the items are being sold on the street.

"For somebody to be taking all this at one time would be pretty incredible. I would say they're probably selling it. ...Vicoden, OnyContin ... those types of drugs," said Pfeifer.
