Prayer Power: Braddock Residents Want End To Community Drug Use

PITTSBURGH —

Residents of Braddock are using the power of prayer to stop drug use in their neighborhood.

Neighbors told Channel 11 News they no longer feel safe because of drug activity. They said the problem has gotten so bad that they've seen drug use outside their churches.

Tuesday night, dozens of people part of an interfaith holy ground campaign held a candlelight vigil along Camp Avenue.

Before the vigil, parishioners and borough leaders gathered to voice their concerns. Residents said they feel like prisoners in their own homes and churches.

They prayed to put an end to the drug activity.

Braddock has added police patrols and surveillance cameras to reduce crime. Borough leaders said drug trafficking and homicides have dropped during the past 16 months.
