Ravenstahl Expresses Concern In Casino Changes

Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl sent a letter to the State Gaming Control Board stating he is concerned about proposed changes to the North Shore casino.

In the letter, Ravenstahl wrote he had no problem with the postponement of a ballroom, amphitheater and dock at the Majestic Star.

However, he objected to the changes that included the elimination of some sidewalks and the replacement of brick paving with exposed concrete along the riverfront.

"I am concerned about the proposed delay," he wrote. "It is my responsibility to ensure that the city of Pittsburgh and its citizens receive what was originally promised to us."

"I hope the mayor will keep an open mind about this as he has in the past, until he's had a full hearing of the facts," said casino spokesman Bob Olttmans.

He said the changes are necessary in the short term to meet their construction budget, and that they have nothing to do with the recent struggles to secure financing which led to a temporary work stoppage at the site.

He also stated the ballroom, amphitheater and docks will be built in the third year of operation.
