Rochester Honors Father-Son Crimefighters

ROCHESTER, Pa. —

A father and son who helped capture a robbery suspect were honored as heroes Monday night.

Rochester Boro's police chief presented an award to Gary and Chris Checkan before the meeting.

The men were collecting trash last week when they spotted a suspicious man.

They tackled him and helped police arrest him.

"I knew he had a gun on him because I felt it there. I yelled for my dad to come help me out. Basically all I could do was keep him there, hopefully disarm him and hold him there until police came. But there was no hesitation on chasing him down. None at all," said Chris Checkan.

Police charged 22-year-old Dale Robertson with robbing six Subway restaurants in Beaver County.

He's also a suspect in a bank robbery.
