Rte. 88 Traffic Reduced To Single Lane Due To Sprawling Sinkhole

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Pa. —

Traffic is reduced to a single lane in each direction along Route 88 after a massive sinkhole opened up in Allenport.

The Pennsylvania Department Of Transportation said traffic had been closed in both directions on Route 88 earlier on Thursday. Single-lane traffic will remain in effect until the problem can be fixed.

PennDOT said the sinkhole, which is about 20 feet deep, opened up beneath Route 88 across from the old Allenport Mill.

Officials said mine subsidence is to blame for the sinkhole.
