School District Sends Out Letter After Suspected Swine Flu Case

PITTSBURGH —

The Allegheny County Health Department told Fox Chapel School District officials that a student at Fairview Elementary School may have contracted the H1N1 virus commonly known as swine flu.

The school sent out a letter to faculty and parents. It read, "We have confirmed that no unusual patterns of absenteeism or illness have been identified at Fairview Elementary School. School staff will continue to monitor the situation closely."

Officials said, to the best of their knowledge, the student did not attend school while ill.

The student is now recovering from the illness, officials said.

Throughout Allegheny County there are 29 confirmed cases and 18 probable cases of swine flu, according to the Allegheny County Health Department.

Statewide, there are over 500 confirmed cases and over 100 probable cases.
