Billingsley was in the middle of an aerobics class at the L.A. Fitness Center the night of August 4th, 2009 when a man walked into the room where she and over 20 others were. The gunman shut out the lights and opened fire. Billingsley and two others, 49-year-old Elizabeth Gannon and 46-year-old Heidi Overmier were killed. Nine others were injured.
At a place where Billingsley would have loved, her friends are organizing a charity auction and “spin off.” Shadyside Spin, located at 5932 Penn Circle South, Suite B-202, will host the two events to raise money for the Judy Billingsley Athletic Scholarship Fund.
The first event on Friday, November 20th includes a concert by Bill Deasy, a silent auction, a bike raffle and drinks/hors ‘d’oeuvres. Admission is $20 per person.
The second event will take place on Saturday November 21st. Participants can spin to motivating music with Shadyside Spin instructors in 30 minute intervals. Sign up for the spin off costs $15.00 per rider.
Friends organizing the two events say they want to honor Billingsley doing something she would have enjoyed herself. They hope for a big turn out so the memorial scholarship in her honor can be rewarded to a well deserving student.
