Sharpsburg Man Who Shot Himself During Motel Standoff Dies

AVALON, Pa. —

A Sharpsburg man who shot himself in the head during a standoff with police at an Avalon motel has died, authorities said.

The Allegheny County medical examiner said Wednesday that Anthony Nguyen, 25, died Monday at Allegheny General Hospital.

He died from a single gunshot wound to the head. His death was ruled a suicide.

Police surrounded the Avalon Motel Sunday night following reports a man had barricaded himself in a room with a gun.

During the five-hour standoff, officers shut down Ohio River Boulevard, and neighbors were told to stay inside their homes.

Police used tear gas at some point and were able to get inside the room. When they got inside, police said they found the man had shot himself in the head.

No other injuries were reported.
