Some Port Authority Route Changes Start Sunday

Beginning Sunday, Port Authority route changes that are a part of a two-year overhaul designed to make service more efficient will go into effect.

The Port Authority made similar changes in April and June under the improvements approved through the transit development plan. It’s part of the first top-to-bottom improvement of the authority's route network since it was created in the mid-1960s.

On Sunday, nearly 75 routes will be changing, including the elimination of 15 routes. Others will be renumbered and relocated.

The changes are not related to the proposed plan to cut service by 35 percent in January.

Some of the noted changes include service in the Mon Valley, where the Y1 Large flyer will increase from 12 trips every half-hour to 21 trips every 15 minutes.

In Oakland, the 71A through 71C routes will be improved between Centre Avenue and Oakland.

A new 93 route will directly connect Lawrenceville with Oakland. And the South Fayette Park and Ride will now be served by the 31 Bridgeville and new G31 Bridgeville flyer.

Along the West Busway, direct service between Carnegie and Oakland will be restored.

The proposed development plan will take two years to complete. Nine routes will become rapid bus routes that will offer faster service with less frequent stops, off-vehicle payment and passenger amenities at access stations.
