PITTSBURGH —
Channel 11 News has learned that the strip club would be located on Beaver Avenue in the Manchester Section of the Pittsburgh.
This is the first casino-related development of any kind to surface. The Northside Leadership Conference said the strip club proposal was anticipated by neighborhood groups who had said that strip clubs, payday lenders and pawn shops would probably follow the casino.
In this case, the developers of the strip club want to locate the club in the Architectural Clay Products building. Tom Hardy of the Manchester Citizens Council said its particularly easy for developers to locate in that area because it is zone "industrial" and it can go in without too much legal trouble.
Community opposition might be another matter. Councilwoman Tonya Payne met with Bernard Taylor, who is proposing the club, and told him that if there was substantial community opposition, she would oppose it, too.
The plan would have to get the approval of the City Planning Commission and City Council. Councilwoman Payne said that if she was opposed, City Council would likely vote down the plan. She said she'll gauge community reaction at a regularly scheduled community meeting on Oct. 17.
