ROCHESTER, Pa. —
Larry Smith, 23, of Rochester, is wanted on felony gun and drug possession charges.
During a traffic stop along the Monaca-Rochester Bridge, police said Smith threw an unidentified object into the river and ran to the catwalk of the bridge.
When police tried to get closer to him, they said Smith dove at least 80 feet into the water.
Police said they saw Smith swimming about 40 yards from the river's edge. Rescue efforts were implemented, but Smith went under water and never resurfaced, police said.
Hazardous conditions led to the search being called off.
Authorities continue to investigate.
