Target 11: Summer Freebies

The temperatures are heating up outside and so are the free deals. Target 11 Consumer Investigator Robin Taylor has uncovered where to find the deals and how to take advantage of them.

The website Living Pittsburgh is the brainchild of two frugal moms, Rachel Booth and Heather Walsh, who were looking for ways to save money. When they realized how many other people were looking for the same things, they decided to turn their idea into a business.

"There's loads of free stuff on this website," said Booth.

"If you don't have a lot or any money to spend, you're almost guaranteed to find something fun to do,” said Walsh.

On Thursdays at noon, check out free concerts in Mellon Square with live performances by local bands.

On the South Side, the Carson Street Deli pours free beer samples every Wednesday from 6 - 8 p.m.

Like to fish but don't want to pay for a license? On Memorial Day you can fish for free in any of Pittsburgh's waterways.

If you're an outdoorsy type, you can kayak for free on Thursdays and Fridays on Lake Elizabeth.

"It's in like three feet of water, if that. We're absolutely doing that,” said Booth who plans to kayak with her family.

There are all kinds of deals for kids. Youngsters can enjoy story time, crafts, and free treats at Friday Kidsplay at Market Square.

Don't know how to swim? The city offers free swimming lessons.

"There are also several free city spray parks where your kids can cool down in the summer," said Booth.

Looking for free meals? Here's another website to check out Kids Meal Deals

At Lonestar Steakhouse children 12 and under eat free from the kid's menu all day on Tuesday.

At Smoky Bones Bar and Fire Grill kids eat free on Monday evenings from 5 - 7 p.m.

Qdoba has free kids meals on Sundays.

For desert, try Bruster's where little ones who are under 40 inches tall get a free baby cone.

Finally, Pittsburgh Magazine named this the most under rated happy hour in the city. Every Wednesday afternoon The Milkshake Factory in the South Side serves up delectable treats.

"We have 55 flavors of the best milkshakes you will ever have in your life," said owner Mark Edwards.

While it isn't free, it is an amazing deal. An old an fashioned milkshake, made with real ingredients cost less than two bucks.

"That is definitely something i would like to try this summer for sure,” said Booth.
