Leanne Matthews lost both her mother-in-law, 73-year-old Esther Matthews, and her 13-year-old niece, Grace Elliott, in a head-on collision Thursday night.

‘I’m devastated,” said Matthews. “I can’t believe it happened.”

They’d been visiting relatives and were less than a mile from their Knox home when they crashed into a car driven by Dennis Bussell, 47, of Clarion, who also died.

Officials said Bussell drove across the road for an unknown reason and struck Matthews' car head-on near the Beaver Township border.

Elliott was in the seventh grade at Keystone High School. She was a Girl Scout and love horses.

Trenton Buzard, 1, who was also in Matthews' car, is the lone survivor of the crash. He is being treated at Children's Hospital and was last reported in stable condition.

“I’m not sure if we’ll ever recover,” said Matthews.
