There's A New Sheriff In Town

Defazio Retired From Office

PITTSBURGH —

Deputy Sheriff William Mullen takes over as Allegheny County's acting sheriff Wednesday morning.

Sheriff Pete Defazio's last day in office was Tuesday.

He submitted his retirement papers earlier this month.

Acting Sheriff Mullen said he will probably run in next year's election to fill the remainder of Defazio's term.

There are some critics who want to do away with the office of sheriff entirely.
