Thousands Turn Out For St. Patrick's Day Parade

PITTSBURGH —

Thousands of people turned out in the rain for the St. Patrick's Day parade in downtown Pittsburgh on Saturday.

The weather was no deterrent to people who make the annual trek to what has become the second largest parade in the U.S..

In addition to the bands, Pittsburgh police issued a show of support for some of their colleagues.

Officers marched together to support the three officers accused of beating a Creative and Performing Arts High School student. Their shirts featured the numbers, "3-5-9-9."

The numbers were a call sign meant to stand for officers Michael Saldutte, David Sisak and Richard Ewing. The three officers, accused of beating Jordan Miles, are on paid leave right now.

Assault and other charges against Miles were dropped last week. The Fraternal Order of Police is looking to the district attorney to re-file those charges.

Several spectators at the parade had signs in support of the police.
