Truck Drivers Meet With Congressman To Protest Gas Prices

The high fuel prices we pay for our cars are really hitting truckers hard. Some of them met with a local congressman Friday to talk about it.

Rep. Tim Murphy spoke with independent truckers at the event. He talked about those high prices and the impact on the trucking industry.

Murphy told the group gas prices could be lowered if Congress would let drilling go on in Alaska but a bill was voted down that would have allowed drilling in an oil rich area of that state.

The truckers are planning a protest in Washington against the gas prices.

Further south, hundreds of truckers rallied in West Virginia to protest the high cost of fuel.

The rally started in Braxton County, before proceeding down I-79 to the Capitol building in Charleston for a meeting with West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin.

Truckers across the country are outraged because the price of diesel fuel has nearly quadrupled since 2000.
