UNIONTOWN, Pa. —
School officials said the project has pushed back the first day of school by one week.
"We will be open September 6 unless we don't get the approval because of the elevators or the staircases are not completed," said Uniontown superintendent Charles Machesky.
Machesky said the pool and the gym won't be ready for the first day, but the rest of the building will.
"We are anticipating early November for its completion date and the pool the end of September, somewhere around there. Those are just auxiliary items. We can have school without having them," Machesky said.
While some parents said the delayed start date is an inconvenience, students said they're excited to go to school in a new building.
"When the school is done it will look like a college campus," said student Kerik Morris.
"The school is looking nice. People don't understand that it takes time to make things look nice," said student Dontae Gibson.
