UPMC Gives Inside Look At New Hospital: Video Inside

Children's Hospital To Open In 2009

PITTSBURGH —

UPMC officials gave Channel 11 News an inside look at the new Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh on Saturday.

The campus is set to open in Lawrenceville in about a year and a half.

There will be nine buildings on the site of the former St. Francis Hospital, including a nine-story building for patients and a 10-story research center.

Most of the nearly 300 patient rooms will be private, so parents can stay overnight with their children.

Another feature is the spacious four-story atrium, called a family resource center, where children can interact with parents and caregivers.

The new Children's Hospital is expected to open in May 2009.

It will cost $620 million to build.
