Which Malls Have The Most Crime?

Data Show 1 Local Mall Has Big Drop In Stolen Cars

By Gordon Loesch

PITTSBURGH —

From purse-snatching to stolen cars, Channel 11 checked out which malls have the most crime.

Last year Channel 11 reviewed crimes reported at area malls for the three previous years.

This time data from 2006 to present was gathered from the local police departments that cover the big malls in the area.

Channel 11 found Century Three, Monroeville, Station Square and Waterworks malls all tie for the number of purse-snatchings.

Last year Channel 11 found Monroeville Mall had the most number of cars stolen from its parking lot.

A look at this year's numbers shows a very different picture, one that should make shoppers at that mall feel safer.

And last year The Mall at Robinson reported the most sex offenses.

This year that mall did have three reported sex offenses, but two other malls had more than that number of sex offenses.

WPXI investigators are still totaling the data for all the area malls.

Friday at 5 on Channel 11, Gordon Loesch has the details on what crimes and how many happen at Pittsburgh-area shopping malls.
