CLAIRTON, Pa. —

A local postal worker accused of killing her husband with a butcher knife in November 2006 will spend one to two years in prison.

Michelle Coulson, 49, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter on Monday to avoid a trial.

Authorities said Michelle and her husband, John, were drinking at the American Legion in Clairton before the incident. Police said when they returned to their home in the 700 block of Lafayette Street, they started fighting.

Michelle Coulson said her husband became angry at her for hiding his liquor.

According to police, they both grabbed butcher knives, which is when the woman stabbed her husband multiple times.

Neighbors said the couple often fought.

James Long said, "I didn't get in anybody's business. You know, arguments here and there but I didn't pay attention to what they were arguing about or what was going on."

"Bits and pieces here and there about them having quarrels of arguing this and that. But I don't think it was really much to amount to anything,” another neighbor said.
