PITTSBURGH —
Mary Cross showed Channel 11 the prescription pamphlet with the drug information. Instead of getting the generic Clomiphene, she was given the antidepressant Clomipramine.
Two days later, Cross said she had a severe allergic reaction.
"I called Giant Eagle immediately and said 'Something is wrong with this prescription,' and they said 'Give me your name,' and they placed me on hold. And when they returned back on the phone they said 'Ma'am, you're right, we gave you the wrong medication,'" Cross said.
Cross said her mother rushed her to the emergency room where doctors gave her five additional medications to keep her from going into anaphylactic shock.
"This could have been my life. Just imagine if my mother hadn't gotten there. Thank God she did. I could have died right there," Cross said.
Cross said she is upset because she said no one from Giant Eagle’s corporate office has gotten back to her. She said she's going public with her story because she doesn't want it to happen to anyone else.
“I wanted them to apologize for what they did and to let me know that something will be done about this,” Cross said.
A spokesperson for Giant Eagle told Channel 11 the company is taking the incident very seriously and is working to rectify the situation.
