WPGH Partners With WPXI To Produce Shared Newscast

WPGH-TV (FOX 53) and WPXI-TV (NBC 11) have announced a news partnership allowing Channel 11 News to produce a one-hour newscast on FOX 53, seven days each week. Beginning Jan. 30, 2006, the familiar faces of Channel 11 News will be seen on FOX 53 at 10 p.m.

“We are excited to offer our viewers a news share at 10 p.m. through the added experience and resources of one of the market’s premier news leaders, WPXI,” commented Alan Frank, General Manager of WPGH. “The resources necessary to bring the level of quality news coverage the Pittsburgh viewer expects is a commitment that WPXI has met and successfully executed. Our partnership will provide viewers with a level of local news coverage that no other station will be able to match.”

WPXI Vice President and General Manager Ray Carter called the partnership a great opportunity to use the infrastructure of WPXI’s news department to better serve the WPGH news viewer. Carter said, “We have so many resources already in place. We plan to add even more people for the 10 p.m. effort. Channel 11 has served the Pittsburgh news audience for nearly 50 years. The idea of having our people and our news now on FOX 53 is exciting, indeed. The viewer will be the big winner in all of this.”
