WPXI was on a search for Pittsburgh's Best Pizza and the city has spoken!
After receiving more than 10,000 nominations, WPXI held a taste test to put the top three nominated pizzas to the test.
First-place winner and the new home of Pittsburgh’s Best Pizza is Mineo's Pizza House in Squirrel Hill.
A big congratulation to the winners and all of the fantastic pizza restaurants that were nominated.
Winners were determined by a combination of taste test scores and public nominations.
How are the finalists selected?
The nomination period endedat 3 p.m. on Monday, March 30 and the Top 3 pizzerias which received the most nominations were selected as our finalists. The top 3 pizzerias with the most nominations were invited to participate in a taste test at the WPXI studios.
The taste test took place during the week of April 7. Each finalist delivered a sample of their pie for the test (One cheese pizza and a specialty pizza of their choice). If a pizzeria did not show up for the taste test they were disqualified.
The winner were determined by a combination of the number of nominations received and the taste test scores.
The winners will be revealed during the week of April 14. Award plaques will be given to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.
1. The Top 10 Pizzas will first be determined by the number of valid nominations received and second, by the willingness of the pizzerias to participate.
2. The nomination process will open Monday, March 17, 2014 at 3 p.m. and close Monday, March 31, 2014 at 3 p.m. Our finalists will be determined at that time.
3. A taste test will take place at the Channel 11 studios during the week of April 7. Each finalist must deliver a sample of their pizza (one cheese pizza and a specialty pizza of their choice) for the test. If a pizzeria does not show up for the taste test they will be disqualified.
4. The winners will be revealed during the week of April 14. Award plaques will be given to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners as determined by the public vote.
