One person dies after double shooting near playground in Marshall-Shadeland

PITTSBURGH — One man has died following a double shooting in the city's Marshall-Shadeland neighborhood.

Chopper 11 was over the scene on Atmore Street Friday, where police vehicles and an ambulance were visible not far from a playground and a basketball court.

According to police, the two victims were in a gray sedan when multiple shooters approached from Marshall Avenue. Several shots were fired, and the shooters, who remain on the loose, ran off.

Investigators said a man in his 20s was taken to Allegheny General Hospital. He died Friday night. The medical examiner identified him as Kai Thomas, 19, of the North Side.

A second man in his 20s was also taken to Allegheny General Hospital, in stable condition.

Evidence markers stretched from one of side of Atmore Street to the other. An entire city block was marked off with crime scene tape and multiple officers searched the area.

A car that was riddled with bullets was towed from the scene. A second car was also damaged.

Neighbors reported hearing gunshots from several blocks away. One woman, who did not want to be identified, said she heard about 10 or 12 shots.
