Parole violation leads police to largest heroin bust in East McKeesport's history

EAST MCKEESPORT, Pa. — A parole violation led authorities Friday to the largest heroin bust in East McKeesport’s history, police said.

Officials said officers went to a home on Miami Street to arrest Michael Thompson Jr., 21, on a parole violation when they found 2,100 stamp bags of heroin with the label “Cobra” worth $20,000.

Authorities said they found the drugs in a brown box in a closet that was feet away from Thompson’s 18-month-old son.

“(It was) very close. He slept in the same room where those drugs were kept,” East McKeesport police Chief Russel Stroschein said.

Police said they hope Thompson’s arrest sends a message to others looking to deal drugs in East McKeesport.

“We don’t want you in our community. Stay out of our community (and) find somewhere else to take your drugs,” Stroschein said.

Thompson was lodged at the Allegheny County Jail and faces numerous charges, including the intent to deliver and endangering the welfare of a child.
