PennDOT announces big projects in Pittsburgh-area

PITTSBURGH — PennDOT announced big projects in the Pittsburgh-area on Thursday.

$500 million will go to fix roads and bridges.

$46 million will be used for steel repairs and paint on the Birmingham Bridge.  The purpose of the project is to increase the longevity of the bridge by 30-40 years.

PennDOT also announced a $50 million re-surfacing project on the Parkway West and $4 million for work on the Fort Pitt Tunnel.

About half of the $500 million will be spent outside of Allegheny County.

More than $10 million will go to fix Route 906 in Rostraver.  Nearly $14 million will be used to resurface Route 119 in Westmoreland County.
