POLICE: Assisted living employee admits to stealing $20K from resident

BUTLER, Pa. — A personal care worker reportedly admitted to stealing over $20 thousand from a resident.

Diane McFeaters was the house manager of Washington Manor Personal Care home in Butler City until Friday.

According to police, McFeaters stole just under $22 thousand from one of the resident. John Doughtery, the owner of the home, said this is something he didn’t see coming.

“She got together with me Saturday morning and told me how she was arrested last night,” said John Doughtery, the owner of the home. “She just wanted me to know she did not do it.”

Police told Channel 11 they videotaped her for 45 minutes, where she admitted to the crimes.

Over an eight month period beginning in July 2015, approximately 51 checks were forged, totally almost $22,000.

“She worked for me for a year. The residents loved her and I’m shocked,” Doughtery said. “I would’ve never thought she would do something like this.”

There are 25 people living in the personal care facility. Many residents live with intellectual disabilities. According to Butler Police, she preyed on the most vulnerable.

“It’s a shame they are vulnerable and they should be watched out for, not taken advantage of,” said Butler City Police Deputy Chief David Adams.
