Pittsburgh-area roller skating rink closing its doors after more than 3 decades

GLENSHAW, Pa. — A roller skating rink that has entertained Pittsburgh-area families for more than three decades is closing its doors.

Romp n' Roll, originally known as Shaler Skateland, will close Nov. 30. The owners of the Glenshaw rink made the announcement on its website and its Facebook page.

The rink’s owners said on Facebook that the building and property are being sold to a company that plans to use them for a warehouse and showroom.

“Putting smiles on faces young and old, bringing people together, creating friendships and providing a little bit of fun in what sometimes can be a dreary world, has been our mission statement through the years,” their statement said.

The rink opened in September 1982.
