Police Arrest Shadyside Bank Robbery Suspects

PITTSBURGH,None — Police have identified a man and woman accused of robbing a bank in Shadyside early Friday morning.

Officers were called to the robbery at the Fifth-Third Bank in Penn Circle at about 10:30 a.m. Police said Alvin Carter, 28, approached the teller and passed a note that read, "Give me $2000 or I will shoot you. ... No dye packs."

The teller complied, giving the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police said Carter fled on foot toward the East Liberty Martin Luther King east busway.

Police said they located Carter in the parking lot of the Barack Obama School and arrested him. According to police, Carter had met up with Philicia Barbieri, 24, at the lot. She, too, was taken into custody.

Police said there is evidence to suggest Barbieri was also involved in the robbery.

Both are charged with robbery and criminal conspiracy.

Another Fifth-Third Bank in Bloomfield was robbed earlier this week. No arrests were made in that case. Police didn't say if the two robberies were related.

The Tribune Review reported that the woman arrested is the same one who was accused of stealing the laptops from CAPA High School.
