Police chase leads to search for burglary suspect in East Deer Township

EAST DEER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A police chase led to a search for the driver who abandoned his van and ran off in East Deer Township.

The man was wanted on burglary charges. Police began to chase him as he drove down Route 908. Officers say he did a U-turn and then drove in and out of two different parking lots. The chase then went down a residential street and stopped at a dead end.  Police say the driver jumped out of the car and ran off.

From Chopper 11, police with K9's were seen searching the Baileys Run and Days Run Road area. Pennsylvania State Police, Allegheny County Sheriff's and local police were all involved.

The van was recovered, but the driver is not in custody. Police say he was the only one in the van.

Channel 11 talked to neighbors who say they were shocked something like this happened on their street.

"Normally it's very quiet around here," said Tony Taliani. "They searched with dogs. They had multiple officers here. They couldn't find anything."

Police say the man has warrants out of Harrison Township. His name has not been released.
