Police find burglary suspect walking down street

PITTSBURGH — Police arrested a man minutes after he broke into a Banksville home, investigators said.

A neighbor on Winchester Drive called police shortly before noon Tuesday after seeing a suspicious person in the area.

Officers confronted Anthony Sroka as he walked down the street.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by Channel 11 News, police said Sroka was nervous and did not make eye contact when the officer asked him where he lived. Sroka ran away and dropped a backpack as he ran, according to the complaint.

The complaint said police arrested Sroka a short time later, and a police dog found the backpack, which had been dropped in a ravine.

Inside the backpack, police said they found cash, gift cards, computer equipment and a video game system that belongs to a resident on Winchester Drive. Police said they also found items taken in a burglary on Hillsdale Drive in Dormont.

Police said Sroka told them he ran because there was a warrant out for his arrest.

Sroka was taken to the Allegheny County Jail, where he faces charges including burglary and receiving stolen property.
