Police link woman accused of robbing S. Strabane banks to robberies in other states

SOUTH STRABANE TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A woman accused of robbing two local banks a day before Christmas Eve has been linked to a total of six bank robberies across three states, police said Friday.

Authorities identified Christine Martin of Davisville, West Virginia, as the woman captured on surveillance video robbing WesBanco and First Commonwealth Bank in South Strabane Township.

Police said Martin robbed banks in Morgantown and Fairmont, West Virginia, as well as two banks in Athens, Ohio, weeks before the Washington County bank robbery spree.

Authorities in Morgantown took Martin into custody on Dec. 30. At the time of her arrest, she was found in possession of a dark jacket and white shoes that were consistent with items worn during the robberies in South Strabane Township, according to a criminal complaint. She was also in possession of a cellphone.

The complaint said records for the cellphone showed that it was used minutes after each South Strabane Township bank was robbed. Authorities said the cellular tower used to service those calls was located near both banks.
