Police: Man attacked family during holiday gathering at senior complex

An early morning fight Thursday inside a senior complex landed one man in police custody and caused his family members to get an emergency protection from abuse order against him.

Thomas Williams, 28, is facing numerous charges, including aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, terroristic threats and fleeing or attempting to elude police.

Investigators said the incident started in Brighton Place in Pittsburgh as a fight between brothers during a Thanksgiving gathering.

According to a criminal complaint, Williams got into an argument with his brother and at one point “lost it and tried to attack” his brother.

The brother went into a bedroom and closed the door, but police said Williams grabbed a knife and started to stab and slash at the door yelling, “I’m going to kill you.”

Moments later, a witness inside the apartment told investigators that Williams turned to her and “began choking her with both hands around her throat,” making her nearly lose consciousness, according to the complaint.

Williams left the senior apartment building and then crashed his car into a house before investigators caught up with him.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 6. Stay with Channel 11 News  and WPXI.com for continuing coverage.
