Police warning people about attempted dog poisonings

LATROBE, Pa. — Police in Westmoreland County issued a warning about someone who may be trying to poison people's pets.

Vince Leone lives on Bell Memorial Church Road in Latrobe. When he let his two young German shepherds outside last weekend, he noticed something suspicious in his yard.

“I started to notice pieces of broken glass, and when I got behind the shed I found loaves of bread or buns,” he said.

Leone showed Channel 11 pictures of what he found. He said when he broke the bread open, he found shards of glass stuffed inside and bags of chocolate and poison. He believes someone intentionally put the items in his yard.

“Someone had to physically walk up and do it,” he said. “It wasn’t something that just blew into the yard.”

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating. They told Channel 11 they do not believe this was an isolated incident. A few weeks ago, they took a similar report in the city of Latrobe.

Leone believes if he hadn’t looked into his yard that morning, his dogs would have eaten the bread.

“(It’s) even more troubling that somebody’s out there doing this to people’s pets,” he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Pennsylvania State Police, Greensburg barracks at 724-832-3288.
