BEAVER COUNTY, Pa. - A woman is facing criminal homicide and aggravated assault charges after police say she shot and killed her niece at a Beaver County bar Thursday night.
Channel 11’s Dave Bondy reported that Christina George was wed just hours before the shooting.
Investigators identified the victim as 21-year-old Katelyn Francis, of Fairview, W.Va.
Witnesses told Channel 11 News that an argument about who was driving may have sparked the violence around 10 p.m. at Jimmy K’s Bar on 11th Avenue in New Brighton.
"When they decided to leave, there was a dispute over who would be the designated driver. This dispute led into a shooting, in which the victim passed away,” said New Brighton Police Chief Charles Vanfossan.
“I know there was some controversy going on inside the bar and people were starting to get a little loud. But that’s as much as I could say,” said witness Jamie Botinovech.
Botinovech said he didn’t think much of it until a few minutes later, when several people ran outside of the bar and into the parking lot.
“Next thing I know, half the bar left and went outside, and we thought everyone was going out for a smoke break and then everyone came in and they were a little stressed and next thing I see is police lights,” Botinovech said.
On Friday night, Channel 11 reporter Pamela Osborne spoke with a bar patron, Eduardo Avlez, who was not there on the night of the shooting.
“They’re (other patrons) shocked that the couple just got married and now this tragedy happened,” said Avlez.
Police said Francis was found in the parking lot and died later a UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.
